Elliot’s Car & Sully’s Truck

                Elliot’s Car & Sully’s Truck

                Elliot, 2003

Elliot and his wife have come to buy
a silver Impala. “Our last car,” he says.

“Now, how do you know this will be your last car?”
“How old do you think I am?” he asks back.

                “Oh, early 80s?”
                “I’m 93-years-old,” he asserts with a smile.

“Even so, how can you know this will be your last car?”
He pauses looking to the side.

                “You’re right,” he says,
“My sister is 103 and she still drives.”

                Sully, 2005

Sully and I are driving back
                after trying the white Silverado

in his garage. “Things are working out,”
he says with great cheer, “It fits. We did it!”

“Yes, we did. You know something Sul?
One of my customers is older than you.

“He was your age, 93, when he bought
a new Impala a couple years back.

“I remember him saying he was buying his last car.”
Sully, emphasizing meter: “What a terrible attitude!”
